Gen. Burhan: Sudan Will Not Heed Calls for a No-Fly Zone, Sanctions Will Not Weaken It

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has downplayed calls for a no-fly zone over the country and urged Sudanese citizens to disregard them.
Burhan reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the battle for dignity until every inch of Sudanese land defiled by the rebellion has been liberated.
He stated that the ongoing discussions about the possibility of imposing sanctions on the country will not have any effect and will not weaken its resolve, adding, “Our lives and our destiny are in God’s hands.”
Burhan who is the commander in chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) was sending message to those residing in hotels abroad who are applauding sanctions to subjugate the Sudanese people, saying, “The Sudanese people will not be broken, and defeat and failure will befall you.” He emphasized that these individuals will never again be able to rule the people.
Burhan’s statements coincided with a UN Security Council session on the situation in Sudan, during which the United States presented a proposal to impose a no-fly zone over all Sudanese airspace.
A number of countries, including Britain, Denmark, and Latvia, supported the proposal.
On Monday, Burhan addressed the graduation ceremony of the 22nd class of officers from the Police and Law Sciences College, where he commended the officers, non-commissioned officers, and privates of the police force. He highlighted the force’s long-standing traditions and its robust and disciplined systems in fulfilling its mission of serving the community.
Burhan stressed that the police have always been the trusted guardians of the Sudanese people, the vigilant protectors of their security and stability, and the guardians of their rights. He praised the first generation of police leaders who contributed to establishing these values.
Burhan also commended the police force’s contributions in supporting the battle for dignity and fighting alongside the SAF. He added that the police are entrusted with safeguarding all citizens’ rights, given their legacy and traditions of serving the people.
He reassured the Sudanese people that SAF, supported by other security forces, are committed to restoring security and stability throughout the country. He affirmed that the enemy will be defeated and that civilians will return to their homes and villages to resume their normal lives.
He also praised the immense sacrifices made by the people in this national struggle, stating that the people do not want to see the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) back on the scene.
Regarding the implementation of the Juba Agreement, he explained that the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by the Vice President of the Sovereign Council, Mr. Malik Agar, has integrated all its forces into SAF, and he called on other movements to follow this example.
