Kuwaiti Ambassador Oversees Relief Convoys for War-Affected Families in Khartoum State

The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) launched Kuwaiti relief convoys in Omdurman, Khartoum State, on Saturday, carrying food and shelter supplies for approximately 2,500 families affected by the war.

The launch was attended by a number of Sudanese officials, representatives of humanitarian organizations and partners, and officials from the organization’s Sudan office.

Kuwait’s Ambassador to Sudan, Dr. Fahad Al-Dhafiri, said the convoys are part of Kuwait’s humanitarian campaign, “Kuwait Stands by You,” which was launched following the outbreak of the war in Sudan. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance programs for the Sudanese people.

Al-Dhafiri explained that Kuwaiti relief efforts have included an air bridge involving 37 aircraft, in addition to a maritime bridge comprising three vessels that transported thousands of tons of food and medical supplies. Kuwaiti organizations have also implemented direct relief projects that have benefited millions of Sudanese.

He reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the Sudanese people in overcoming the consequences of the crisis and achieving security and stability, while praising the cooperation of Sudanese authorities in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

For her part, Samia Ahmed, Director of the International Islamic Charitable Organization’s office in Sudan, said the project targets the most vulnerable families affected by the consequences of the war in Khartoum State.

She explained that the initiative provides food baskets containing essential supplies, along with shelter materials intended to improve families’ living conditions and strengthen their ability to cope with the current circumstances.

Ahmed added that the project is part of the organization’s broader relief programs in Sudan and its efforts to strengthen food security and provide essential needs to vulnerable groups. The programs are implemented in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure that assistance reaches beneficiaries according to principles of fairness and transparency.

She praised the efforts of government authorities and partners in making the project possible, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between humanitarian organizations and government institutions to mitigate the effects of the humanitarian crisis and support affected families amid growing needs.
