Civil Society Bloc Warns of Implications of “Fano” Attacks on Eastern Border

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

The “Civil Society Bloc” has warned of the negative implications that could arise from the influx of Ethiopian refugees into Sudan due to the attacks by “Fano” fighters against the Ethiopian army in the border town of Metema.
In a press statement on Wednesday, the Deputy Chair of the bloc, Fatima Al-Basir, emphasised that the situation of refugees, displacement, and infiltration into Sudanese territory requires intensified efforts to address the potential impacts, especially as the country is also dealing with similar displacement and refugee issues.
Last week, a joint delegation from the Refugee Commissioner’s Office of the Ministry of Interior and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees visited the states of Gedaref and Kassala. They met with local authorities in both states and visited some refugee camps in Gedaref, aiming to coordinate national and international efforts concerning the refugee situation.
