Federal Delegation Visits Arbaat Area and Promises Radical Solution

A federal delegation that included the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid visited the Arbaat Dam area on Wednesday and inspected the effects of the dam’s collapse and the flow of water at the beginning of the week.

The Minister of Finance and Planning, Gibril Ibrahim, promised to find radical solutions to the Port Sudan water problem in coordination with the relevant state agencies as a whole according to an integrated plan.

He stressed the federal government’s interest in rehabilitating the Arbaat Dam as a priority. The government will also pay attention to the cleanliness of the area’s wells and re-operate them in coordination with the residents to ensure the provision of water to the Arbaat area and the city of Port Sudan and ensure decent living conditions for the region’s citizens.

The minister stressed the government’s interest in rebuilding the infrastructure and making the necessary preparations to reduce the impact of natural disasters on citizens.

For her part, Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Salwa Adam Benya confirmed the Commission’s interest in continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by floods and torrential rains in the country in coordination with state institutions, United Nations organizations, and humanitarian organizations, and praised the assistance provided by the Saudi Arabian King Salman Center in coordination with national organizations.

The representative of the native administration in the locality of Al-Qanb and Olaib Al-Omda Obshar called for the need to rebuild the dam as a main source of drinking water for the region and the city of Port Sudan, stressing the importance of relocating villages from the course of the dam to safe areas and providing basic services to citizens in terms of health, education and drinking water and activating the water harvesting program as a priority for farmers.

The Executive Director of the locality, Ali Muhammad Khair, pointed out the need to reopen the roads affected by the floods and link the locality’s areas.
