Minister of Energy Issues Instructions to Increase Power Generation

The Minister of Energy, Engineer Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, has instructed directors of electricity companies to double electricity generation so that the growing demand in Khartoum State and the rest of the states are met.

He also instructed that production be increase in order to cover the needs of the residential, industrial, health, and agricultural sectors.

The Minister met today, Monday, with the Director General of the Sudanese Electricity Distribution Company, Engineer Muntasir Abdul Rahman Al-Sheikh, the Director of the Generation Sector, Engineer Muhammad Muhammad Al-Rajil, and the Director General of the Sudanese Electricity Transmission Company, Engineer Yasser Muhammad Al-Shazli, in the presence of Engineer Al-Sadiq Jaber, a member of the Steering Committee of the Undersecretary’s Office.

The meeting reviewed the technical arrangements for electricity-related matters, prioritized needs, and worked on a plan to increase electricity generation in the areas of hydroelectric and thermal power generation, as well as expanding renewable energy projects.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of work at the Kalanib power station in the Red Sea, the Qari (3) station in Khartoum State, and the Umm Dabakir station in White Nile State, as well as plans to secure the various power stations.

The meeting discussed prioritizing projects according to urgent needs in order to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Sudan to provide the necessary funding and guarantees, and to coordinate in addressing financial intersections and the payment status in the electricity interconnection projects with Egypt and Ethiopia.
