965 Mass Graves and 14,506 Disappearance Cases in the Sudanese Attorney General’s Report Submitted to UN Committee

Geneva – Sudanhorizon

On Friday, the Sudanese Attorney General, Al-Fateh Tayfour, submitted a copy of the third interim report of the National Committee to Investigate War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity to the Special Rapporteur of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances. The report included information on the 14,506 cases of enforced disappearance reported at the end of last month. The report was submitted on the sidelines of his participation in the 59th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The Attorney General explained the efforts of the Public Prosecution and the National Committee to monitor various cases of violations, noting the discovery of 965 mass graves in areas retaken from the control of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia. This indicates the scale of the violations and atrocities committed, including extrajudicial killings and the deaths of victims as a result of torture and cruel treatment in detention centers.

The Attorney General confirmed an increase in the number of citizen reports following the militia’s expulsion from Khartoum, Al-Jazira, and Sennar, where law enforcement authorities, including the Public Prosecution and the police, began their work in those areas.
