Worth 20 Billion Pounds, Customs Destroy 160 Tons of Prohibited Goods

The General Directorate of Legal Affairs and Violations at Sudan Customs today destroyed 160 tons of prohibited and non-compliant goods, with an estimated value of 20 billion Sudanese pounds.
The destroyed items included a wide range of hazardous materials, such as expired food products and sweets, large quantities of cigarettes and non-compliant tobacco (mu‘assel), used clothing, as well as banned cosmetics and beauty products containing harmful substances. The operation also included unregistered medicines and medical drugs that do not meet health requirements.
Assistant Director General for Customs Operations, Major General of Police Imad Mohamed Nour, affirmed that this operation reflects the pivotal role played by customs authorities in protecting society and the national economy. He explained that the destruction of 160 tons of goods valued at 20 billion pounds sends a clear message that customs will remain vigilant in safeguarding citizens from anything that threatens public health.
For his part, the Director of the General Directorate of Legal Affairs and Violations, Brigadier General of Police Jumaa Abdel Salam, stressed the Customs Authority’s firm commitment to community safety. He pointed out that a number of relevant laws are being enforced to destroy all harmful and carcinogenic materials that “unscrupulous individuals” attempt to smuggle into the country.
He added: “Protecting society is our ultimate goal, and the law is our reference in purging markets of everything that threatens human life.”
