US Secretary of State Calls for International Action to Halt Arming of RSF Militias

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on Wednesday called for international action to end the flow of weapons to the Rapid Support Forces militias, holding the paramilitary group responsible for the escalating bloodshed in Sudan.

He said he believes steps should be taken to stop the weapons and support that the Rapid Support Forces militias are receiving, at a time when these forces continue their advance on the ground.

Rubio told reporters as he left the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Canada his country is exerting pressure on countries supporting the Rapid Support Forces to stop arming them, adding that the abuses committed by the Rapid Support Forces are systematic. He stressed that it was not true that these acts are carried out by rogue elements.

In his press statements, the Secretary affirmed that the Rapid Support Forces militias are involved in committing atrocities against civilians, including the rape.

Regarding labeling the Rapid Support Forces as a terrorist organization, he said If that will help solve the problem, then so be it.
