New York – Sudanhorizon – Maryam Abashar
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to hold an open session followed by a closed session on the current situation in Sudan, Friday, to be attended by the Sudanese mission to the United Nations.
Senior diplomatic sources told Sudanhorizon that the Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Political Affairs, Peacebuilding, and Peacekeeping Operations, Martha Ama Akya Bubi, and the Omani representative, along with a representative of Sudanese civil society, will address the open session.
The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Sudan, Ramadan Lamamra, is also expected to deliver a briefing during the closed consultation session.
The Chairman of the Sudan Sanctions Committee, Korean Ambassador Junkuk Hwang, will also debrief the session on the work of the Committee.
On June 16, the Council held a closed session devoted to consultations on the humanitarian situation in Sudan in light of the siege imposed by the Rapid Support Militia on several cities in Kordofan and Darfur.
