Athletes participating in the Islamic Solidarity Games, currently being held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, took part in the UNESCO Athletes’ Consultative Workshop organized as part of the event, with the aim of promoting principles of inclusion, fairness, and safety in sports.
The workshop addressed several key themes, including discussing mechanisms for developing more equitable global sports policies, as well as examining the pivotal role athletes play in shaping future decisions that contribute to the advancement of the international sports movement.
The committee selected a number of athletes from representatives of 57 countries to participate in the “Champions Voice Up” program, in recognition of their efforts in sports volunteering and their contributions to amplifying athletes’ voices at the international level.
Sudan was represented in the workshop by judo athlete Ahmed Omar Al-Aqib, who shared his views during the discussions and presented perspectives reflecting the aspirations of Sudanese athletes for a more inclusive and equitable sporting future.
UNESCO representatives and the Games’ organizing committee praised the initiative launched by Ahmed Omar in Gedaref State, which aimed to promote basketball, reinforce Olympic values, and enhance community integration. The initiative was described as a model of sports volunteering that the world needs today.
