The National Umma Party Vice Chairman, Retired General Siddiq Ismail, has described the decision to withdraw the mandate as acting chair of the party from Major General (Ret.) Fadlallah Burma Nasser as ‘’verry objective.
Ismail told Sudanhorizon news website that the decision to withdraw confidence from the party’s acting leader, Fadlallah Burma Nasser, was essentially backdated, going to February this year, and that they have continued to reject this decision on formality arguments.
He emphasized that the party’s Political Bureau has no jurisdiction and no standing in this matter, adding that the matter is an organizational and governed by the bylaws and the constitution.
He said that there are governing institutions that decide on this matter, including the Central Committee and the General Conference. He added that it is impossible for the General Conference to convene now, while the Central Committee has full powers. The deputy head of the Umma Party acknowledged the existence of a split within the party, saying, “It is not correct to say that there is a group that supports Port Sudan and another group that supports the Rapid Support Forces. “The correct description is to state that there is a group that deals with state institutions and the nation, and another group that has thrown itself into the arms of the militia against the Sudanese state.”
Regarding the silence of the sons of the late prime minister and late chair and historical leader of the party, Sadiq al-Mahdi, vis-a-vis the events, he said that Abdel Rahman al-Sadiq’s position is clear and that he stands with the nation. He emphasized that the issue has transcended names and has become a national issue, and that those among the Imam’s sons who are currently silent will eventually join the nation’s ranks.
