Turkish Authorities to Dispatch Aid Ship to Sudan

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) in Turkey announced that it is preparing a humanitarian aid ship loaded with shelter materials and urgent relief supplies to be sent to Sudan.

AFAD Director Ali Hamza affirmed, during his meeting today (Friday) with Sudan’s Ambassador to Turkey, Nader Youssef, the Authority’s readiness to meet urgent humanitarian needs and to instruct Turkish humanitarian organizations to strengthen their support in accordance with Sudan’s priorities and needs.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of AFAD expressed his satisfaction with the appreciation shown by the government and people of Sudan for the continuous assistance that Turkey has consistently provided. He praised the efforts of Turkish organizations, particularly the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) and the Turkish Red Crescent, as well as the important role played by the Ankara Platform for Voluntary Organizations, which includes 27 organizations and officially began its work through a press conference last week.

For his part, Ambassador Nader discussed the latest humanitarian developments in Sudan and the extent of destruction that has affected all aspects of life in areas subjected to systematic devastation by the terrorist rebel Rapid Support Forces militia. He also reviewed the efforts undertaken by the Sudanese government in the fields of relief and service restoration, in addition to ongoing steps for the gradual return of state institutions and ministries to Khartoum, the national capital.
