The Rule of Law.. The Pride of the Sudanese

Advocate Dr. Abdel Azim Hassan
The Sudanese people’s support for the advance of the armed forces did not merely foil Hemedti’s coup; it transformed the army’s setbacks into victories backed by the citizens. The pride of the Sudanese has surpassed all attempts at distortion, affirming that the war can only end through negotiations over the militia’s surrender and the halting of its rebellion, or through its eradication—fulfilling the slogan of the revolution: “Dissolve the Janjaweed.”
Supporters of this militia—whether local, regional, or international, knowingly or otherwise—have overlooked the catalogue of crimes it has committed: killing, rape, dragging bodies, and looting, beginning in the very heart of Khartoum where the war first erupted, and stretching to the farthest battlefronts on the borders of Darfur in western Sudan.
The entry point to ending Sudan’s war is neither burying heads in the sand nor equating victim with perpetrator, but by declaring that the Rapid Support Forces are a militia rebelling against the people and their resources. Failing that, as the Sudanese have experienced, any delay in making this designation will not excuse the militia’s barbaric conduct but will amount to clear and explicit complicity by those wishing to impose its existence on the Sudanese—forcing them into abject submission over their wealth, their lives, and their dignity. The Sudanese are a proud nation, and their honour is above all. Thus, the way to end Sudan’s war lies not in conditional aid or relief handouts, but in upholding the dignity of a people who will never accept humiliation, degradation, or dishonour.
The war of 15 April indeed created a new reality, not only for Sudan but for the entire region. Yet just as the noble human sentiment has led free peoples of the world to stand by Palestinians in their plight, nothing will prevent the Sudanese from voicing their own demands for themselves and their homeland. The pretext of eradicating the Islamic Movement, or any political current, does not justify disregarding the will of the Sudanese in favour of those coveting Sudan and its resources.
