The Arab Council Condemns UAE’s Role in the Sudanese War
Tunis – Sudanhorizon
The Arab Council, headed by former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, has condemned the direct involvement of the UAE regime in supporting, financing, and arming the Rapid Support Forces militias fighting the Sudanese army.
The council in a statement has urged Arab, Islamic, African, and other countries to take action to address the repercussions of the crisis and end the war, warning of the dangers of Sudan’s partition and disintegration.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Council said it was following with grave concern the horrific massacres, killings, and widespread displacement of innocent civilians in El Fasher, perpetrated by these militias supported by external parties, primarily the ruling regime in the UAE.
The statement added that Darfur has become an open stage for genocide and ethnic cleansing, amid suspicious regional and international silence and the clear inability of the United Nations and the Security Council to stop this humanitarian catastrophe.
The Council believes that what is happening in Sudan cannot be separated from a serious project to dismantle the Sudan as a country and transform it into warring and failed entities, serving regional and international agendas that seek to weaken Sudan, plunder its resources, and exclude it from its natural Arab and African role.
It emphasized that the plan to partition Sudan, if allowed to proceed, will set a disastrous precedent that threatens the entire Arab national security and paves the way for the same scenario to be repeated in other Arab states.
The Arab Council strongly condemned the direct involvement of the Emirati regime in supporting, financing, and arming the Rapid Support Forces militias, despite the war crimes and crimes against humanity they have committed, as documented by international organizations.
It warned that this behavior undermines the principle of Arab solidarity and represents a stab in the back of Arab national security, as it is unacceptable for Arab funds to be used to finance wars of extermination and the destruction of a sister Arab state.
The Arab Council called upon major Arab states, particularly Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco, to take immediate and concerted action so as to halt the massacres in Darfur and press for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire; launch an independent Arab initiative to protect Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity; conduct an Arab and international investigation into the role of external parties in financing and arming militias; hold those responsible for genocide and forced displacement accountable before national and international courts; and provide urgent humanitarian assistance to displaced and affected civilians in Darfur and other afflicted areas.
It also appealed to Islamic countries, especially Turkey, African countries, particularly South Africa, and all forces committed to peace, to intervene immediately to pressure for a halt to the genocide and to help prevent the collapse of Sudan.
