Supporting Environmental Sustainability: Zain Launches Fruit Tree Planting Project in Halfa Al-Jadida
Sudanhorizon – Reports
In collaboration with the “Baytna Akhdar” (Our Home is Green) initiative, Sudanese mobile operator Zain has announced the launch of a fruit tree planting project in Halfa Al-Jadida City, Kassala State. This initiative aligns with Zain’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, increasing green spaces to promote biodiversity, creating natural habitats for living organisms, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and providing an income source for beneficiary families.
The project kicked off with planting 100 orange trees as the first phase under the supervision of Baytna Akhdar, which specialises in home gardening and environmental sustainability. Rabab Imam Al-Badri, head of Zain’s Corporate Sustainability Team, stated that the initiative is part of the company’s corporate sustainability strategy, aiming to support environmental initiatives and enhance community engagement to achieve environmental and developmental goals.
She added that through this project, Zain reaffirms its role as a responsible partner in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development for the benefit of society and public health.
In September 2024, Zain launched a home gardening training course in Kassala State in collaboration with Baytna Akhdar. This program, part of Zain’s vocational and technical training project, targeted 1,000 trainees to empower youth, enhance their skills, and foster a culture of sustainable development and entrepreneurship. The training raised environmental awareness and equipped participants with skills for home gardening.
Notably, graduates from the home gardening program are actively participating in the planting and preparing seedlings, sharing their knowledge and skills with families in Halfa Al-Jadida as part of the fruit tree planting project.
