Sudan’s Representative to the UN Refutes UAE’s Allegations

New York – Sudanhorizon – Mariam Abashar
The Sudan Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, on Friday submitted a message to the United Nations Security Council in response to the representative of the United Arab Emirates, whose government identifies with the militia that commits genocide and the most heinous crimes of systematic rape against women, the deliberate targeting of facilities and civilian objects such as power and water stations.
In his message, Ambassador Al-Harith called on the Security Council to assume its legal and moral responsibility to hold those responsible accountable and confront the systematic aggression against Sudan’s sovereignty, security and the stability of regional and international peace and security, noting that the crimes committed in Sudan with the support of the UAE shook the world conscience – if the UAE representative has regard for international law – according to the message.
Ambassador Al-Harith pointed out that the message of the UAE representative was full of inaccuracies and failed attempts to evade international responsibility. In his message he drew attention to the report issued by the Committee of Experts on Darfur, which proved by satellite monitoring the UAE’s direct involvement in fueling the armed conflict in Sudan by transporting weapons via flights taking off from Abu Dhabi to um Jaras airport in Chad in clear violation of the arms embargo resolution in Darfur which was adopted by the Security Council.
The message also drew attention to the mid-term report of the Committee of Experts, which was issued in November last year and documented a military airlift launched from Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah loaded with weapons destined to the rebel Rapid Support Militia. These planes disappeared from radar while flying in an attempt to eclipse their final destination. It pinpointed to the report which also revealed UAE Companies involvement, and to investigative reports published by several independent media, including the New York Times and France 24.
The ambassador noted in his message that the failure to convict the UAEs in the reports of the Sanctions Committee was not proof of innocence, but rather the result of “the failure of the members of the Committee to sign the report in clear complicity in the procedural work of the Committee.”
In his message, Ambassador Al-Harith revealed material evidence that he described as strong confirming the delivery by the UAE to the militia of advanced weapons in the form of drones, artillery and anti-aircraft as well as the continuation of supply lines from southern Libya and Kufra to Nyala inside Sudan, which resulted in an increase militia committing more crimes in the region.
Ambassador Al-Harith said that investigative medias last week documented the arrival of mortars with serial numbers that matched shipments sent by Bulgaria to the UAE in 2019 and which arrived to militia areas near Al-Fashir, and that Bulgaria confirmed that it did not give permission for re-exporting them to a third party. He said this was proof the illegal transfer and that showed Abu Dhabi’s violation of international law.
The ambassador has criticized the behavior of the UAE representative as he fails to adhere to the diplomatic observed norms when he describes Sudan’s representative as the army representative in clear violation of Article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations. He added that it should also be noted that the Sudanese army was behind the establishment of the UAE army.
Ambassador Al-Harith refuted the allegations of the UAE representative on obstruction by the Sudanese government for the delivery of humanitarian aid, recalling the letter of commendation sent by Tom Fletcher to the President of the Sovereign Council praising the cooperation and facilitation provided by the government in delivering aid to those affected.
He said that the UAE representative’s talk about peace realization lacks the moral authority speak about peace when his country is the sponsor of the said war.
