Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, has received the Director of UNICEF office in Geneva, Ms. Hazel de Nett, and her assistant, Ms. Anastasia, at his office on Friday.
The ambassador has reviewed with them the provisions of the government’s peace initiative, noting that, following its presentation by the Sudanese Prime Minister, Kamil Al-Tayeb Idris, it had been well-received by the UN Secretary-General, the African Union, the League of Arab States, the Great Lakes Region Conference, and numerous countries bilaterally.
The delegate expressed the Sudanese government’s appreciation for the valuable role played by UNICEF through its country office in Sudan.
For her part, the UNICEF Country Director welcomed the initiative, noting the importance of supporting any efforts to restore peace in light of escalating humanitarian needs worldwide and the reluctance of donor countries to fund humanitarian response plans. She affirmed that UNICEF, through its country office in Sudan, would continue to provide all possible assistance to those affected.
