Sudanhorizon Highlights the Dilapidated Situation at Gezira Scheme in Pictures

Gezira – Sudanhorizon – Exclusive

The Sudanhorizon news website has successfully obtained recent photos from inside the Gezira Project, which is under the control of the Rapid Support Forces militia. The acts of kidnapping, looting, and destruction of the project’s infrastructure have caused the agricultural season to fail for the second time.

The photos show vast areas of the Gezira Project reduced to barren lands, overrun by grass and rainwater. Additionally, some sections of the project have been converted into camps for mercenaries from various African countries, engaging in criminal activities that have forced most farmers to flee.

Abdel-Baqi, a farmer who owns a plot he cultivates annually, told The Investigator that he could not plant this season due to the security situation. He added, “The seeds were looted from the warehouses, and we were forced to hand over last season’s wheat and chickpea harvest without compensation.” He vehemently denied receiving any funding from the so-called civil administration, confirming that they were robbed and terrorised, losing all their possessions. He pointed out the difficulty of succeeding in the current agricultural season, as the remaining farmers are now impoverished and under siege.
