The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) has emphasized the necessity for international inspection companies and suppliers to adhere to the requirements outlined in the 2024 Regulations Governing the Operations of International Inspection Companies.

The Director General of the SSMO, Rahba Saeed, stressed the importance of implementing these requirements in accordance with the organization’s laws to protect consumers and the national economy, and to ensure the quality and safety of imported goods.

She revealed that the requirements, published last September, include conducting physical inspections of goods in the country of origin, specifying batch numbers, and fully documenting the process through a report that includes data on all participating parties and supports the report with photos and videos illustrating the inspection process.

She also noted the requirement to conduct inspections of goods according to the requirements of Standard 17020, specifying the protocol followed in the sampling process, as approved by the SSMO during the registration process. The requirements also included a commitment to conducting tests in accredited laboratories according to the requirements of Standard 17025, as per the list of laboratories and their respective fields approved by the Authority during the registration process. Furthermore, the requirements stipulated submitting inspection and analysis certificates to the Origination for review and verification of the completion of conformity procedures before shipment.

Rahba emphasized the necessity of notifying the international inspection company that the supplier must not ship the goods before receiving the final conformity certificate from the Organization.

She stated that if the supplier ships the goods without consulting the international inspection company before the conformity process is complete, the international inspection company must notify the Authority, provide all relevant data, and refrain from submitting any documents for conformity verification.

She urged international inspection companies to supervise the shipment procedures after the issuance of the conformity certificate, attaching the inspection report, which must include the general condition of the shipment, preamble information, and batch numbers, along with any other required documents.
