Sudanese Minister: We Never Requested Egyptian Authorities to Deport Sudanese
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Moussa
The Sudanese Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Mutasim Ahmed Salih, has denied reports that the Sudanese government has asked its Egyptian counterpart to deport or repatriate Sudanese nationals currently residents in Egypt.
In an exclusive interview to be published in full later, Salih affirmed that the Sudanese government’s position is clear and unwavering, emphasizing that any return of Sudanese to their homeland must be “voluntary, safe, and dignified.”
Salih has stressed that “We welcome all those who wish to return whenever conditions allow in their region, and we respect the right of those who choose to remain temporarily abroad until the situation fully stabilizes.”
The minister explained that the most prominent challenges facing humanitarian work in Sudan include the vast scale of need compared to available resources, difficulties in ensuring safe access to those affected, high operational costs, and attempts to politicize humanitarian work.
He acknowledged shortcomings imposed by the war on his ministry’s performance, emphasizing that efforts are underway to address them by strengthening state-level structures and improving communication with the public.
Salih pointed to a significant gap between the scale of humanitarian needs and available resources, indicating that the ministry has a post-war plan focused on rebuilding the social protection system, supporting voluntary return and reintegration, addressing psychological and social impacts, supporting livelihoods and employment, and promoting governance and social justice.
The minister has stressed that however long the ordeal faced by the Sudanese lasts, it will end through the will and solidarity of the people. He added that the government is continuing to fulfill its duty, and its success will be measured by the restoration of human dignity, the return of social stability, and the building of a more just future. He noted that international support exists, but it remains insufficient to meet the country’s actual needs. He affirmed the belief in partnership with international organizations within frameworks that preserve national sovereignty and ensure transparency and efficiency.
