Sudanese Dignitaries Launch the “Sudanese Social Peace Project” in Cairo

CAIRO – Sudanhorizon
A group of prominent Sudanese community figures officially launched the “Sudanese Social Peace Project” on Tuesday evening in Cairo, Egypt, in the presence of a large gathering of leaders representing various Sudanese states.
Dr. Othman Mohamed Yousif Kibir, head of the preparatory committee that had been working on the project for over a year, announced the official launch, affirming that the primary goal is to rebuild national trust and strengthen Sudanese social cohesion through community work — at a time when the country is facing exceptional circumstances that require collective efforts and complementary initiatives.
In his remarks at the launch event, Kibir said:
“We thank God that we have been able to launch this major national project, which is built on sound principles, starting with acknowledging the problem, in pursuit of a proper remedy — away from loyalties, regionalism, tribalism, and narrow identities that have torn apart the community and harmed its social fabric.”
He stressed that the project is not in competition with any other initiative, but rather “open to all Sudanese without exclusion or restriction, and to anyone who considers themselves capable and willing to contribute, as its foundation is social, its base is the community, not political or elitist.”
Kibir explained that the project will operate on several parallel tracks, including modern approaches to community reconciliation that differ from traditional settlement methods. It will also support “tekaya” (traditional communal charity kitchens) for the vital services they provide in various circumstances, and it will develop a comprehensive programme to combat hate speech, which poses a significant challenge in the Sudanese context.
He added that the project will be entirely implemented within Sudanese territory and is neither temporary nor time-limited, but will continue its work in the public sphere as long as the challenges persist. He stated:
“We welcome all similar efforts and projects that move in the same direction, and we believe that coordination and synergy between initiatives are what will lead Sudan to safe shores.”
Kibir also revealed that coordination is already underway between the project and the committee led by Commander Malik Agar, affirming that there are no reservations about the committee formed by the Prime Minister. Rather, he described it as an additional step towards cooperation and joint action, adding:
“We are fully prepared to coordinate and complement the work of all entities that share our concerns and pursue the same goals.”
The project leader concluded his statement by affirming that the initiative was a natural response to the state of deep fragmentation experienced by the Sudanese people, both inside and outside the country — especially in Cairo. He said:
“We aim to set things right, restore normality, and pave the way towards a safe, united, and stable Sudan — through healing the scars of past crimes and holding perpetrators accountable by the law.”
