Sudanese Ambassador: Moscow Spared Sudan of Foreign Intervention

The Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow, Mohamed al-Ghazali said Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereign Council, is leading the Sudanese delegation to the Arab-Russian Summit set to take place in Moscow in mid-October
The ambassador pointed out in a statement to Sudanhorizon News-website that the upcoming summit is taking place amid difficult and complex circumstances in the Arab region, in addition to developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war and relations between Russia and the West.
He added that in light of these geopolitical circumstance at the regional and international levels, the Arab League plays an important role in dialogue and interaction within the framework of multilateral diplomacy with Russia.
He added that Russia is a country of political, diplomatic, and military influence, which makes adopting an Arab-Russian approach to balance relations, exchange benefits, and contribute to peace and stability efforts extremely important.
He noted that the joint declaration and action plan to be adopted by the summit are expected to reflect these contents.
The ambassador explained that Sudan will participate in this summit with a high-level delegation led by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Al-Burhan.
He stated that this participation is particularly important in light of the developing relations between Sudan and Russia. He added that Russia supported Sudan during the war and was among the first countries to affirm Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the importance of preserving state institutions.
He stressed that Russia did not stop at just saying that. The first visit by a high-ranking official to Sudan after the war was from Russia. It also spared the country the risks of foreign interference by using its veto power in the Security Council.
In addition, the numerous reciprocal visits and high-level meetings that have taken place over the past period confirm the close coordination and mutual support between the two countries and the political will to develop and strengthen bilateral relations.”
Al-Ghazali pointed out that the summit is a good opportunity to explain the latest developments in the Sudanese affair at an important international conference. He said that the Sudanese Armed Forces and the supporting forces have achieved major victories over the terrorist militias and confirmed Sudan’s determination to move forward until the liberation of every inch of the homeland and the restoration of peace, security and stability to all parts of the country.
He added that the summit represents an opportunity to develop bilateral relations between the two countries, and a bilateral meeting will be held between Presidents Al-Burhan and Putin on the sidelines of the summit to discuss relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them.
He pointed out that the recent period has witnessed great activity in all domains and exchange of support, and a number of high-level meetings between ministers in the two countries. He said that the last meeting was between the Minister of Minerals and the Russian Minister of Natural Resources during the meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee in September, and the meeting of the Prime Minister and the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs in New York.
He concluded that this positive interaction culminates in the meeting of the two presidents,adding “ we expect it to have important outcomes that will positively reflect on relations between the two countries.”
