Sudan & WHO Sign Plan to Strengthen Health System for 2026–2027

Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Sudan, Dr. Shible Sahbani, signed a joint plan for the years 2026–2027 on Friday in Port Sudan, according to the Sudan News Agency.
The minister and the UN official discussed the WHO’s interventions in supporting Sudan’s health sector. Dr. Haitham expressed his satisfaction with the partnership with the World Health Organization, affirming that the plan includes multiple pillars aimed at strengthening the country’s health system. He praised the technical and logistical support provided by the organization at both regional and global levels, and thanked all those who contributed to the preparation of the signed plan.
For his part, Dr. Shible Sahbani explained that the partnership includes cooperation with the African Development Bank and the implementation of several development projects. He noted that the agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the WHO covers a two-year period and aims to build a strong health system capable of meeting the needs of Sudanese citizens.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, also discussed arrangements for Sudan’s participation in the upcoming World Health Organization meeting scheduled for May 2026. The minister reiterated his appreciation for the organization’s significant efforts in supporting health projects and providing continuous technical assistance to Sudan.
