The Sudanese Embassy in Washington officially conveyed to the U.S. government the Sudanese government’s gratitude and appreciation for U.S. President Donald Trump’s pledge to exert efforts to address the situation in Sudan.
The embassy also informed Washington of Khartoum’s welcome of the efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States to help achieve peace in Sudan.
Sudan’s Ambassador in Washington, Mohamed Abdullah Idris, conveyed the Sudanese government’s thanks to both Washington and Riyadh for their interest and ongoing efforts to stop the bloodshed in Sudan.
Speaking to Sudanhorizon on Thursday, the ambassador said he affirmed to the U.S. administration the Sudanese government’s commitment and readiness to work with both countries to achieve the peace long awaited by the Sudanese people.
Idris confirmed that Sudan’s mission in Washington will maintain communication with the U.S. administration at both the executive and legislative levels to take practical steps to implement the commitments made.
On Wednesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to intervene immediately to end the war in Sudan at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Trump, who hosted Mohammed bin Salman in Washington, said: “The Crown Prince asked me to intervene to solve the crisis in Sudan, and I will do that. Thirty minutes after his request, I began working to help resolve the Sudan crisis,” noting that he has already ended eight wars and only one remains.
Trump added: “Resolving the conflict in Sudan was not part of my plans, but Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made me care about it. He will play a strong role in working to end what is happening in Sudan.”
For his part, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said during a joint press conference with the U.S. President on Tuesday that there is extensive joint work with Washington, praising Trump’s efforts toward peace.
