Sudan Unveils Plan to Tighten Oversight of Mining Operations

A high-level ministerial meeting has revealed a comprehensive plan aimed at strengthening oversight of mining operations and mineral trading, enhancing coordination mechanisms among relevant institutions, and deploying modern technologies to boost transparency and reduce resource losses in the sector.
The announcement came during a meeting chaired by Minister of Minerals, Nour Al-Daem Taha, at the ministry’s headquarters on Sunday, to discuss the proposed strategic plan for securing the mining sector and combating smuggling.
The session was attended by Minister of Finance, Jibril Ibrahim, Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Ahmed Al-Dardiri Gandour, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Burai Al-Siddiq, Governor of the Red Sea State, Lt. Gen. Mustafa Mohamed Nour, and Director of the Customs Authority, representing the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Salah Ahmed Ibrahim.
Minister Taha emphasized that the plan represents one of the government’s top priorities to protect national resources and maximize revenues. He affirmed that the ministry is steadily moving toward establishing a secure and efficient mining system that supports the national economy, attracts investments, and safeguards the environment and public health.
