Sudan Participates in Meeting of States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention

Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan has completed its preparations to participate in the Meeting of States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, which begins tomorrow and runs for five days in Geneva. The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Ahmed Saleh Ahmed Abboud, arrived early this morning (Sunday) to lead the Sudanese delegation.
The Sudanese mission has also completed arrangements to hold a special Sudan-focused side event on the margins of the meeting, with the participation of numerous organisations and donor countries. The event is expected to present Sudan’s new plan for mine clearance and the removal of war remnants—particularly in areas and facilities targeted by the Rapid Support Forces terrorist militia since the outbreak of their rebellion. It will also outline urgent measures requiring coordinated implementation between the National Mine Action Centre and the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Sudan.
The head of the Sudanese delegation, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other participating delegations.
