An informed source has revealed that an operational trial for the Gaili oil transportation and the Khartoum Refinery located north of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum has been initiated.

The source told Sudanhorizon that the station has begun a trial operation in preparation for resuming work at any time after operational plans are ascertained. The Gaili station receives oil from block 2B in Heglig, along with oil from South Sudan, which then passes through the station to the Bashair Port in eastern Sudan for export.

The source announced the beginning of maintenance for the Khartoum Refinery in the Gaili area through local companies. He clarified that significant damage occurred to the oil storage tools (reservoirs), indicating that most of the units are in good condition.

In January, the Sudanese army announced full control over the Khartoum refinery, located near the city of Gaili, about 70 kilometers north of the Sudanese capital, which had been occupied by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias since the outbreak of the war in mid-April 2023. The Khartoum oil refinery covers about 66% of Sudan’s fuel needs.
