Sudan Expels WFP Director and Operations Director

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation summoned Laurent Bukera, Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Office in Sudan, on Tuesday and informed him of the Sudanese government’s decision to declare him and Ms. Samantha Katraj, Director of Operations, persona non grata. They were told to leave the country within 72 hours.

The Sudanese government, according to the Sudan News Agency, has meanwhile affirmed its commitment to cooperating with all international organizations operating in Sudan in accordance with internationally recognized rules and regulations, including respect for state sovereignty.

It stressed that the decision does not affect ongoing cooperation with the WFP in Sudan.
