Sudan Calls on the Red Cross to Help Determine the Fate of Girls Abducted by the Militia

Sudan’s Minister of Justice, Abdullah Mohamed Darf, held a meeting on Saturday in Geneva with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, in the presence of the State Minister at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Salima Ishaq, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the latest developments in Sudan, as well as the state’s efforts to rehabilitate judicial institutions and resume their work, in addition to national peace initiatives and the proposed roadmap.

The discussions also addressed the government’s efforts to strengthen compliance with international humanitarian law and the role of the relevant national committee in this regard. He affirmed Sudan’s commitment to cooperating with the Red Cross in the areas of capacity building, family reunification, and addressing humanitarian issues related to the war.
For her part, the State Minister stressed the importance of the International Committee of the Red Cross fulfilling its role in helping to determine the fate of women and girls who were abducted and forcibly transferred to areas under the control of the rebel militia, and in facilitating communication between them and their families.

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian work and expanding its field activities in Sudan, including visiting places of detention and supporting family reunification efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
