Sudan Calls for Designating the RSF as a Terrorist Group

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

The Sudanese government has called for designating the Rapid Support Forces militia as a terrorist organization, just hours after the United States of America announced the inclusion of the Islamic Movement in Sudan and the Muslim Brotherhood on its global terrorism list.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the government had followed the U.S. decision to classify the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a terrorist organization, reaffirming its principled and firm stance condemning all forms of terrorism and violent extremism without exception or selectivity.

The statement added that any groups violating international humanitarian law and committing war crimes or crimes against humanity inside Sudan should be designated as terrorist organizations.

It stressed the need to respond to mounting calls for listing the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia on international terrorism lists.

The Foreign Ministry affirmed the government’s firm commitment to protecting the country’s security and stability and safeguarding citizens’ lives and dignity, noting that it will continue to take necessary measures in accordance with national law and in line with Sudan’s international obligations in combating terrorism and violent extremism.
