Sudan, a Key Topic in the Latest Call Between Blinken and Egyptian Counterpart

The U.S. State Department announced that Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed Egypt’s role and the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty.
Blinken expressed gratitude to the Egyptian Foreign Minister for Egypt’s pivotal role in paving the way for peace in Sudan.
In a press release, the State Department stated that the U.S. Secretary of State praised Egypt’s critical role as a mediator in efforts to achieve a ceasefire and a hostage agreement that could halt the fighting.
The press release further noted that the call between the two ministers addressed the next steps to sustain momentum toward lasting peace and security in the region.
The statement also highlighted that the two officials discussed ongoing cooperation with Egypt regarding humanitarian access, protecting civilians, working to achieve a cessation of hostilities, and finding a pathway to peace in Sudan.
