State Minister for Finance: We Support Union Plan to Stimulate the Economy Through Workers

State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Adviser Mohamed Nour Abdeldaim, affirmed his ministry’s support for the initiatives of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Sudan aimed at developing the “Workers’ Support Portfolio” and transforming it from a consumer-oriented portfolio into a comprehensive productive and development-oriented portfolio by the end of 2027.

During a meeting with the President of the General Federation of Workers of Sudan, Dr. Sir Al-Khatim Al-Amin Abdelgadir, Abdeldaim affirmed the ministry’s support for structural and financial reform programs at the Workers’ Bank and for coordination with state investment agencies and affiliated funds to provide the necessary resources.

Abdeldaim called for making use of opportunities and expertise available through international institutions and cooperating with domestic national initiatives, particularly the “Selati Program.”

The meeting also discussed the economic and service conditions of workers and mechanisms for addressing the effects of the current circumstances.

For his part, Federation President Dr. Sir Al-Khatim Al-Amin said the workers’ portfolio is based on a partnership with 17 commercial and government banks, led by the Workers’ Bank and the Central Bank of Sudan. He called on the Ministry of Finance to coordinate with major state-owned companies to explore opportunities for injecting investment deposits and providing liquidity that would enable the Workers’ Bank, Basqat Company, and the Workers’ Microfinance Company to provide productive and development projects for workers affected by the circumstances of the war.

He also reviewed the federation’s efforts as part of its popular and trade-union diplomacy, including arranging a visit by a high-level delegation from the International Trade Union Confederation. The visit resulted in a detailed report being submitted to the United Nations Security Council on the situation of workers and the humanitarian conditions in Sudan.

He further highlighted the federation’s continued leadership of prominent regional positions, including the presidency of the Horn of Africa Trade Union Federation and the deputy presidency of the Central Council of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions.
