Somoud Coalition Denied Receiving Invitation for Internal Dialogue and Sets Conditions

The Democratic Civil Coalition of the Forces of the Revolution, “Somoud,” said on Monday that it had received no contact regarding arrangements for its participation in a dialogue inside the country and had not taken part in any related preparations.

The coalition, headed by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, reaffirmed its position calling for “an end to the war and immediate solutions to end the suffering of the Sudanese people.”

In a statement issued by its executive office, the coalition said: “We will not be a party to any false solutions that reproduce the crisis or grant political legitimacy to the war and its consequences.”

The coalition stressed that “ending the war and addressing the humanitarian catastrophe must be the goal and starting point of any political process,” leading to sustainable peace and a civilian democratic transition. It said there was no point in pursuing a political track separate from the security and humanitarian tracks, and that any call for dialogue that disregards the priority of a ceasefire lacks credibility.

It also stressed that any credible process “must be independent of the dominance of any of the parties to the war,” warning that any initiative lacking such independence would reinforce the realities and logic of war and would fail to achieve peace in the country.

The Somoud Coalition said that any dialogue held in areas controlled by the army while ignoring the country’s undeclared divisions and the distribution of territorial control among multiple armed groups would, in its view, lead to the consolidation of the country’s partition and jeopardize the unity of its territory and people. “Somoud will not participate in committing such a crime,” it said.

The coalition also said that reports of initiatives calling for amnesty for civilian forces confirm that the measures taken against them are fundamentally political and had no legitimate basis from the outset.

It reiterated Somoud’s position in favor of justice and accountability for all, “through holding accountable those who started the war, those who profited from it, and all those who committed crimes against innocent civilians, in addition to handing over individuals wanted by the International Criminal Court.”
