Saudi Foreign Minister Arrives in Washington on Official Visit; Sudan on his Agenda

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Washington on Wednesday for an official visit to the United States.

During the visit, Prince Faisal is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments.

The visit comes days after the Saudi minister met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Also present at the meeting were Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs; Prince Musab bin Mohammed Al-Farhan, the minister’s advisor for political affairs; and Ambassador Saleh bin Eid Al-Hussaini, the Saudi ambassador to Cairo.

In addition to discussing developments in Yemen, the Saudi minister and Egyptian officials also discussed developments in Sudan and Somalia. Both sides affirmed the importance of preserving Sudanese state institutions and the country’s territorial integrity.

On Tuesday, President Trump’s senior advisor on Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, met in Riyadh with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Waleed Al-Khuraiji, and Political Advisor Prince Musab bin Mohammed Al-Farhan to discuss the situation in Sudan and the region.

Boulos stated, “We focused on our joint efforts, alongside regional partners, to achieve a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan. We also discussed how the US-Saudi partnership can enhance progress on regional issues.”

Today (Wednesday), Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji visited Sudan and met with the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council as part of Saudi efforts to reach a settlement in Sudan, following the Saudi Crown Prince’s initiative with President Donald Trump to end the war in Sudan.
