SAF Regains Control Over Tina After A Brief Militia Incursion

Sudanhorizon – Agencies
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allies have repelled a large-scale attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces militias on the town of Tina, North Darfur State, Saturday.
The town of Tina holds strategic importance due to its location on the border between Sudan and Chad, which gives any military escalation there potential regional dimensions, given the ongoing security tensions in the Darfur region.
Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a surprise attack on SAF and joint force positions in Tina, seizing control of the area after the SAF and its allies withdrew into Chadian territory.
The sources added that the SAF and joint force later launched a counter-attack, regaining control of the area and inflicting heavy casualties and equipment losses on the RSF.
Platforms affiliated with the joint force posted videos showing the destruction of military vehicles and the capture of others in good condition, shortly after RSF members posted videos showing their presence in front of the local government headquarters in Tina.
The sources indicated that the clashes in Tina coincided with an incursion by RSF elements into Chadian territory, where they attacked a Chadian army post. The sources stated that the incursion resulted in the deaths of several Chadian troops and injury of others.
There was no immediate official comment from Chadian authorities, and Sudan Tribune was unable to independently verify the incident. The RSF has repeatedly crossed the border into Chad, where the last incursion occurred last January, before the militia apologized and describing the event as an “unintentional error”.
