RSF Militia Draws Blood from Civilians Fleeing War

El Fasher – Sudanhorizon

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its allies have increased the frequency of crimes committed against civilians fleeing El Fasher on the road leading to Tawila locality in North Darfur State.

In addition to killing and kidnapping, militia members have forcibly withdrawn blood from fleeing civilians, leading to numerous deaths. Most of those fleeing El Fasher are heading to Tawila, which now houses more than 500000 IDPs living under dire humanitarian conditions.

Survivors and eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune on Saturday that “crimes against civilians included killing, kidnapping, arbitrary detention, and blood transfusions from fleeing people without clear medical precautions.”

Three survivors who arrived in Tawila explained that blood withdrawing without proper hygiene measures caused the deaths of at least ten civilians in a short period.

Younis, an IDP who fled Abu Shouk camp north of El Fasher and reached Tawila, told the website that a militia force, accompanied by an ambulance, intercepted a gathering of them near the town of Qarni, west of El Fasher, on August 26.

He indicated that the armed men forced them to stop and beat them with whips after accusing them of being Sudanese army soldiers trying to flee El Fasher.

He explained that the armed men forced six young men into an accompanying ambulance before doctors inside the ambulance drew blood, without even conducting a preliminary blood test to confirm the type or validity of the drawn blood.

He stated that three of these young men died on the way to Tawila due to complications.

Two other survivors confirmed that the militia was involved in withdrawing blood from the fleeing people, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people between August 1 and 30.

Shocking Statistics

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the displaced people of Zamzam camp, Mohammed Khamis Doda, was quoted by Sudan Tribune as saying that RSF and their allies had killed approximately 15 civilians on the road between El Fasher and Tawila over the past two weeks.

He pointed out that the Rapid Support Forces’ crimes have increased significantly over the past period on this road, and spoke of the presence of dozens of bodies still lying in the open, most of whom were refugees from Zamzam camp and have not yet been buried.

Dodo accused the Sudan Constituent Alliance (SCF) forces of deceiving El Fasher residents, urging them to leave so they could be caught on the road and killed or arrested, with the aim of extorting large sums of money from their families for their release.

He revealed that they had received confirmed information indicating that the Rapid Support Forces had established field hospitals in Zamzam camp after transforming it into a military barracks. Healthy young men are being transported to these hospitals to have their blood drawn for use in treating the wounded members of the Rapid Support Forces.

Doda explained that the Rapid Support Forces are using some of the kidnapped civilians in inhumane acts.
