River Nile State, UNICEF Coordinate Hosting of Darfur Exam Students

The committee tasked with receiving and hosting male and female students from Darfur states who will sit for the 2026 Sudanese secondary school certificate exams in River Nile State held discussions with representatives of UNICEF on the type of services and support the international organization can provide to prepare accommodation sites and support examination centers designated for Darfur students.

During the meeting, chaired by the Director General of the Ministry of Education and Guidance in River Nile State and Acting Minister, Ahmed Hamid Ahmed Yass, the committee presented statistics on the number of students who have already arrived in the state, noting that the final number could exceed 4,000 students.

According to the committee’s report, the number of students registered in the examination system from East, Central, North, and South Darfur who will sit for exams in River Nile State has reached 3,135 students, as reported by the Sudan News Agency.

The committee also presented data on urgent needs for student accommodation in the cities of Al-Damer and Atbara. Discussions also covered health aspects and the technical procedures required for the organization to access camps and examination centers to provide services to students, in accordance with the regulations governing the exams.

Ahmed Hamid, Acting Minister of Education and Guidance in the state, welcomed UNICEF representatives and thanked them for their generous initiative to support camps and examination centers for Darfur students. He stated that UNICEF has become a key partner of the ministry in advancing the educational process in the state.

For their part, UNICEF representatives expressed their appreciation for the significant role played by the Ministry of Education and Guidance in River Nile State and the state government in maintaining the stability of the education system and hosting students from various states of Sudan.

They affirmed their readiness to contribute to providing urgent needs at accommodation sites, supplying meals for students, providing water at examination centers, offering hygiene kits for female students, and delivering psychosocial support programs for both male and female students.

It was also decided to hold a joint meeting between the hosting committee and UNICEF, with the participation of other organizations and partners, to strengthen efforts in supporting Darfur students sitting for the 2026 secondary school certificate exams in River Nile State, scheduled to begin on April 13.
