River Nile: No Mining Activities Near Residential and Agricultural Areas

The River Nile State has issued a decision prohibiting mining activities adjacent to residential and agricultural areas.
The Governor of River Nile State, Dr. Mohamed El-Badawi Abdel Majid, has directed that any mining activity of any nature be prohibited near residential and agricultural areas and that the legal distance of 25 kilometers from both areas be strictly observed.
The governor, during his meeting with a delegation from Hillet Younis, West Berber, emphasized the need to adhere to these legal distances to avoid any impact of materials used in mining operations, such as cyanide and mercury, on humans, animals, and plants in the short and long term.
The delegation assured the governor that the mining phenomena that appeared near Hillet Younis, West Berber, were on their way to being resolved permanently by removing the basins and relocating the activities.
Meanwhile, the director of the Hillet Younis Agricultural Project, Ammar Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Rahman, stated that the governor and the Minister of Agriculture agreed to resolve all obstacles facing the project and work towards its future expansion.
