Republican Palace in Asmara Witness a Summit Between Al-Burhan and Afwerki

The Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki held an official meeting today (Tuesday) at the Presidential Palace in Asmara, the Eritrean capital. The discussions centred on the progress and trajectory of bilateral relations between the two nations.
The talks explored avenues to strengthen, enhance, and further develop bilateral ties while solidifying areas of mutual cooperation to serve the interests of both countries. They also addressed the evolving situation in Sudan and ongoing efforts to achieve security, stability, and peace, in addition to matters of mutual concern.
According to a statement from the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s media office, General Al-Burhan briefed President Afwerki on the latest developments in Sudan and efforts aimed at resolving the Sudanese crisis, reaffirming the Sudanese government’s commitment to finding solutions, ending the war, and establishing peace.
General Al-Burhan provided insights into the violations and crimes committed by the rebellious terrorist militia against citizens, as well as the systematic destruction of Sudan’s state institutions. He emphasized the determination of the armed forces and other regular forces and mobilized volunteers to defeat and eliminate the militia.
Expressing his profound appreciation for the strong Sudanese-Eritrean relations across various fields, Al-Burhan highlighted the deep brotherly ties between the two peoples. He commended Eritrea’s support for Sudan in maintaining its unity and helping the Sudanese people achieve security and stability. He extended his gratitude to the Eritrean government and people for their historic and noble stance in hosting Sudanese refugees during their time of hardship and providing assistance and aid, noting that such solidarity is characteristic of the Eritrean government and its generous people.
For his part, President Isaias Afwerki thanked General Al-Burhan for the visit. He reaffirmed Eritrea’s steadfast and unwavering support for the Sudanese people in their pursuit of security and stability. He emphasized the historical and enduring bonds between the two peoples, underscoring the strength of the bilateral relationship and the depth of joint cooperation across various fields. Afwerki stated:
“We will work to enhance the prospects of joint cooperation to serve the interests of both countries and their peoples.”
General Al-Burhan arrived in Asmara earlier today on an official visit. He was received at Asmara International Airport by President Afwerki and members of the Sudanese diplomatic mission.
General Al-Burhan’s visit was accompanied by Sudan’s Minister of Culture and Information, Khalid Al-Ayesar, and the Director of General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal.
