Protest Outside South Australian Parliament Denounces Ethnic Cleansing in Darfur
Adelaide – Sudanhorizon
Members of the Sudanese community in Australia, joined by Australian supporters, staged a protest on Saturday outside the Parliament of South Australia in Adelaide to denounce what they described as acts of ethnic cleansing and genocide committed by the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El Fasher and across the Darfur region.
The demonstrators carried placards calling for an end to the genocide in Darfur, chanting slogans demanding that the terrorist militia and the government of the United Arab Emirates be referred to the International Criminal Court.
Protesters asserted that the UAE bears full responsibility for the atrocities and violations taking place in Sudan due to its financial and military support for the RSF. They urged the Australian government and the international community to impose immediate sanctions on the UAE and all entities contributing to the ongoing war and the killing of Sudanese civilians.
Speakers at the rally also called on Australia to increase humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people and to suspend its free trade agreement with the UAE in response to its involvement in the conflict.
The demonstration was held in solidarity with the victims of the recent massacres in El Fasher, where independent human rights organisations have documented widespread, ethnically motivated atrocities committed by the RSF amid what protesters described as a “deeply troubling international silence.”
