Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi paid a visit to the United Arab Emirates on Thursday where he held talks with its President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the talks covered “various avenues of cooperation and joint action, particularly in the economic and developmental fields, and the potential for developing them in a way that serves the development priorities and common interests of both countries and brings prosperity and growth to their peoples.”
The agency reported that the meeting addressed “developments in the Middle East region in light of the escalating military operations and their serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability.”
It added that both sides emphasized “the need for an immediate cessation of escalation and resorting to serious dialogue and diplomatic means to resolve the various outstanding issues in the region, thus preventing further security tensions and crises and preserving regional security and stability.”
The agency noted that the Egyptian president reiterated, in this context, “his condemnation of the blatant Iranian attacks that continue to target the UAE and a number of brotherly countries in the region, as they constitute a violation of their sovereignty and international law.”
It added that the Egyptian president reaffirmed “Egypt’s solidarity with the UAE regarding all measures it takes to protect its security, territorial integrity, and citizens.”
The agency pointed out that the two presidents “exchanged greetings at the beginning of the meeting on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, praying to Allah, the Almighty, that it returns to both countries and their peoples with goodness and blessings, and to the Arab and Islamic nations and the entire world with security and stability.”
Later, President Sisi arrived in Doha,Qatar, where he was received by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. It is likely that President Sisi will reaffirm his support for Qatar in the face of the Iranian attacks on Qatari civilian and economic facilities.
