Political Sources:Shift in the British Position towards Developments in Sudan

Sudanhorizon – Mariam Abashar
Political sources have described the recent visit by a delegation of Sudanese media experts to London as very special, and considered the participation to be the first of its kind by the British side, extending an invitation to experts and media professionals to hear them express a position different from the have been accustomed to hearing.
The sources said that the delegation was invited because it represents the section of people whose voice has been silenced—the broad spectrum of the Sudanese people—and not the official voice.
This is because the government has an embassy and mission in London and is in direct contact with the British government and its official bodies.
British government officials, including envoys, diplomats, and decision-makers, frequently visit the administrative capital, Port Sudan, and listen directly to the Sudanese officials and leaderships what they wanted to know about developments in Sudan.
The sources told Sudanhorizon that the British government, through the Royal Institute for Security Studies, had wanted to hear the voice of the majority of Sudanese living inside Sudan.
The sources considered the invitation and its implementation in itself a significant opening, given that the British government has been listening to one side of the story that embraces a single opinion since the outbreak of the war.
This step came in response to demands that the Sudanese government had been raising with the British government for some time.
It is worth noting that the Royal Institute is one of the ancient British research institutes, having been established in the eighteenth century.
It represents a mechanism to support the Ministry of Defense and the security services, and specializes in studies of national security, defense, and strategic issues.
It is also considered influential at the present time, as the British government’s focus is on direct security and the country’s national security, particularly given their belief that there are imminent threats facing Britain, including the Russian-Ukrainian war, the events in Gaza, and the economic tension with China.
