High-level sources confirmed to the Sudanhorizon news site that the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, will arrive in Port Sudan tomorrow, Monday, following a one-day delay.
The sources indicated that upon his arrival, Perriello would immediately engage in critical discussions with senior state officials. He is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Youssef and the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
According to information obtained by the site’s correspondent, the visit will last for one day.
The sources revealed that a U.S. private jet landed today (Sunday) at Port Sudan airport, carrying the advance delegation accompanying the envoy. Representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will accompany Perriello during his visit. Discussions with the Humanitarian Aid Commission are also planned during the visit.
The envoy’s first visit has been described as pivotal in the trajectory of Sudanese-American relations and efforts to end the ongoing war, particularly given the United States’s role as a sponsor in the Jeddah negotiation platform.
