Nuhoud Locality official: The People Need Urgent Humanitarian Assistance

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa

The Executive Director of Nuhoud Locality, Musa Ali Ibrahim, has denied any knowledge of an agreement reached by the Tribal Chief of the Hamar tribe with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

News reports said the said agreement reportedly stipulates the withdrawal of combat forces from the city, while a limited number of would remain to maintain order, reopen markets, and prevent any negative practice, in addition to reaching a coexistence formula with the popular resistance to prevent bloodshed.

Ibrahim told Sudanhorizon “Am not aware of this, and even if it is implemented, I do not believe it will achieve any beneficial results. Moreover, the vast majority of people have left the city.” He added: “What I know is that the tribal chief of the Hamar tribe does not trust the RSF, nor do they trust him.” He noted that this news is unconfirmed.

He stated that what they had received was that the chief holds firm in his support for the Sudanese government despite the pressures exercised against him.

The Executive Director of Nuhoud Locality explained that the city was subjected to a treacherous attack that targeted all its districts, and that the citizens were greatly affected. He said, “The markets and neighborhoods were looted, and the majority of the people have fled the city and wandered. Some of them were children, women, and the elderly, walking towards the neighboring villages in an attempt to reach the city of El Obeid and other small and large areas around Nuhoud.”

He added that Nuhoud is one of the largest and most important cities in Sudan, and that it is densely populated. He explained that it is virtually the only safe city close to the cities in eastern regions of Darfur and Darfur states in general. He said that many internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Darfur and other cities in West Kordofan, such as Al-Fula and Babanusa, were inside.

He added, “All people have left the city’s IDP camps due to the militia’s actions and brutality against the civilians. Now, the city is almost deserted.”

He emphasized that the impact on the citizens has been significant and that they need a lot of assistance. He called on humanitarian organizations to assist these displaced people who left Nuhoud after its invasion.

The official noted the difficulty of communicating with the citizens, and said that he has now moved to another site to follow up local issues related to the town, and stated “we are trying by all means to identify the places of displacement”, adding that what they know was that the locals and authorities in the places that received the IDPs have provided them with assistance, expressing his hope to reverse the tragic situation of the citizens of Nuhoud as a result of the attack that occurred against them by the militia and their displacement from their homes, calling for interventions from humanitarian and charitable organizations to strengthen the role of the government.
