Nigeria Supports Peace, Unity, and Stability in Sudan

The Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Inikanolayi, has reaffirmed his country’s unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Sudan. He reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to support all serious efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace and stability in Sudan.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website reported that the Minister made this statement during his meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Nigeria, Mohamed Abdel-Aal Haroun, on Friday, at the Ministry headquarters.

During the meeting, Ambassador Inikanolayi emphasized the long-standing historical and strategic relations between Nigeria and Sudan, describing the strong friendship between the two countries as built on a shared history, strong people-to-people ties, and mutual respect. He affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

For his part, the Sudanese Ambassador congratulated the Minister on his appointment and expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he received.

The ambassador highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and social ties between the two countries, particularly the long-standing presence of a large Nigerian community in Sudan, which he described as a cornerstone of bilateral relations. The Ambassador briefed the Minister on the current political and security situation in Sudan and outlined his government’s tireless efforts to restore peace through various regional and international initiatives, including the Jeddah Peace Declaration and other diplomatic efforts.

The Ambassador appealed to Nigeria to continue its support for promoting peace and stability in Sudan and requested its assistance in the country’s reintegration into the African Union.

In response, Ambassador Enekanolayi affirmed that Nigeria remains firmly committed to supporting a comprehensive, Sudanese-led peace process capable of preserving the country’s unity and facilitating lasting peace.
