Wellington – Sudanhorizon
The New Zealand government has reiterated its support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, emphasizing its non-recognition of any parallel government outside the framework of legitimacy.
The position was expressed during the first official visit of its kind by a Sudanese official to the country.
Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, Chargé d’Affaires at the Sudanese Embassy in Australia, who also oversees operations in New Zealand, met on Tuesday with Ms. Paula Wilson, Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East and Africa at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms. Wilson affirmed her country’s unwavering commitment to supporting Sudan’s territorial integrity and rejecting any attempts to impose a parallel political reality.
Wilson explained that New Zealand is considering providing a new package of humanitarian aid in light of the increasing humanitarian needs in Sudan, reflecting its continued commitment to supporting the Sudanese people during this critical period.
She also indicated that her government is reviewing the initiative presented by Dr Kamil Idris, the Sudanese Prime Minister, to the United Nations Security Council and the international community, calling for a comprehensive political solution that achieves stability and restores the path of democratic governance.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, intensify coordination in international forums, and supporting the efforts of humanitarian organizations working in Sudan. The situation of the Sudanese community in New Zealand was also discussed, with commendation for its active role in supporting those affected within Sudan, particularly in areas impacted by the insurgency of terrorist militias.
It is to be noted that the visiting Sudanese delegation included Musab Taj Al-Sir, Deputy Chargé d’Affaires, Sheikh Al-Tahir, Head of the Sudanese Community in New Zealand, and Abdul Rahman Bashir, former Head of the Community.
