New French Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Visits Sudanese Embassy in Paris

Sudan’s Chargé d’Affaires at its embassy in Paris, Ambassador Hamed Al-Jazouli Khalid, received at his office yesterday (Thursday) Ambassador Jean-Marie Safa, France’s newly appointed Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa and Sudan, accompanied by Arnold Legouet, the French Foreign Ministry’s Sudan affairs officer.

The Chargé d’Affaires congratulated the French envoy on assuming his new duties and reviewed the Sudanese government’s efforts to prepare for reconstruction, as well as arrangements for launching a national dialogue and an inclusive, civilian-led political process.

He also expressed Sudan’s hopes for French support in addressing the country’s humanitarian and development challenges, according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).

For his part, the French envoy noted that Sudan possesses historical assets as well as enormous human and economic resources that qualify it to overcome its current crisis. He affirmed France’s interest in the Sudanese file, stressing the importance of national dialogue in achieving a ceasefire and sustainable peace.

He also pointed to President Emmanuel Macron’s interest in the Sudanese issue and noted French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot’s desire to visit Sudan.
