Nawara: Government Commits to Creating an Attractive Environment for Return to Khartoum

Dr. Nawara Abu Mohammed,member of the Sovereign Council, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting efforts to make the environment in Khartoum State attractive for voluntary return, within the framework of environmental security and sustainable development.

The member of the Sovereign Council made the pledge during her address in the “Bari Al-Daraisa” area of Khartoum locality, at the Khartoum State Environmental Initiative and the awareness campaign supporting the recovery phase.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Higher Council for Environment and Urban and Rural Development in the state, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme and several partners, and was attended by the Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Othman Hamza, and members of his government.

Dr. Nawara stated, “Voluntary work, in its humanitarian and national essence, means preserving the dignity of the citizen, restoring security, and providing the necessities for a decent life.” She emphasized that protecting and rehabilitating the environment is a fundamental approach to achieving social stability and sustainable development.

For his part, the Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, pointed to the environmental impact of war remnants in the state, outlining the efforts undertaken to address these remnants through sterilization, water chlorination, and treatment of environmental threats and vectors. He noted that these efforts, along with awareness and guidance campaigns, have contributed to staving off the challenges.

The Governor commended national and international initiatives, as well as the adoption of this program by United Nations organizations, which aims to create a suitable environment for the return of citizens.

In the same vein, the Secretary-General of the National Council for the Environment explained that these initiatives focus on building a society based on a new approach that respects the rights of future generations. He emphasized that the environment is a national issue requiring the concerted efforts of all partners.

Ghada Hussein, Secretary-General of the State’s Higher Council for Environment and Urban Development, has meanwhile revealed the development of a ten-year plan aimed at restoring environmental balance and creating effective partnerships, promising a future that places the citizen at the heart of its concerns.
