Minister of Finance to Participate in World Bank Meetings in Washington

Sudan’s Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Gibril Ibrahim, is currently in Washington, DC, heading the Sudanese delegation participating in the 2025 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WB). The meetings began yesterday and will continue until April 27.
The meetings will discuss key global economic developments and macroeconomic challenges, in addition to issues of digitization, financial services technology, and climate change. Accompanying events include seminars and discussion sessions on global economic issues, international development, and financial markets.
The Minister is expected to hold a series of important meetings on the sidelines of the meetings with a number of representatives of international financial institutions, most notably the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as well as regional financing institutions.
The Minister will also hold discussions with a number of his counterparts, finance and economy ministers from the countries participating in the meetings, with the aim of strengthening joint economic cooperation and developing bilateral partnerships to serve the country’s development priorities. The issue of resolving Sudan’s external debt is at the top of the meeting’s agenda, in addition to efforts to refinance a number of vital projects in the health, education, and humanitarian support sectors, through cooperation with specialized international organizations. The Sudanese delegation includes Mohamed Bashar Mohamed, Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance, along with a high-level technical delegation from relevant departments within the ministry.
