Minister of Finance: Need for Audit Bureau in Strengthening Jurisdiction over Public Funds

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, has emphasized the importance of the National Audit Bureau in strengthening the ministry’s jurisdiction over public funds, strengthening financial and accounting oversight, and financial control by revitalizing implementation of laws and regulations managing financial and economic activity in the country.
In the meeting held on Wednesday with the Director General of the Bureau and the directors of its general departments at the ministry’s headquarters, the minister promised to further strengthen the Bureau in keeping pace with global financial and accounting developments and to work, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to amend the legislation that ensures this.
He reviewed a detailed presentation that included requirements for improving the Bureau’s performance.
For his part, Mustafa Ali Youssef, Director General of the Bureau, emphasized the importance of the ministry’s impetus to activate its role in economic reform by approving the draft law of the Bureau, completing and upgrading the comprehensive computerization of accounting systems, building a unified financial and accounting electronic system, enabling the Bureau to prepare a national final account, and implementing decisions to ensure the existance of Bureau staff in all government units, enhancing their independence, and building their capacities.
